2008-08-01 Conky and when you're emotional don't listen to OMD

While packing day before yesterday , listening to music, eating pizza and updating the layout I managed to get Conky at least half working. Conky is very configurable system monitor software for Linux (and FreeBSD). After realising that perhaps I could make those .sh files executable, things started working a lot better. I was using this Conky thingy. It was little tricky because person who made this originally is apparently Polish (so pretty much all the useful info was in Polish) but after wondering in Ubuntu Forums and Ubuntu Suomi I got it working the way I wanted. Weather report is from Yahoo!. Conky was showing wrong reports first (sunny here? lol) so I changed the url to show right place.

Configuring the Conky was very interesting. I have no experience what so ever, so getting it working (I have to still test few things though) was very rewarding.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s music is beautiful and quite touching… at least I can’t avoid sudden tears falling on my cheeks. Perhaps not the best music to listen to in airplane when you are in very emotional mood. After travelling in train, bus, plane, bus and train again my eyes were red and swollen when I finally arrived home. Well I listened to other music too yesterday. Like Falco, Die Ärzte, Kent, Bryan Ferry but they didn’t really make feel any better.

Second day back in Finland I didn’t have school so I was able to be lazy, or at least I tried to be lazy. Leaving Germany was hard of course but luckily not without good memories (both material and mental). Material: New jeans and black long armed shirt, pillow case and comforter, Trend’s Das Produkt, Bela B.‘s Bingo and Die Ärzte’s Jazz ist anders cd’s, two Fruits Basket mangas, green tea (from DM) and the most importantly Apple-Vanilla tea from DM (60 bags, should last till Jo comes to see me next time in Finland). Huh.

Anyway I did definitely enjoy my time there. I have eaten so much good food and met so many nice people (some I already knew and some I didn’t). I kind of love Germany, I don’t know if I really love yet, because I have seen so little in the end. But I could imagine living here in future, maybe . Me, Jo (and cats ).

I would like to go back. Can’t wait to my German lessons starting again 14th Jan.
