2007-25-08 Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold
So they play this in radio… “Wow they’re actually playing Supertramp.” After few seconds the horrible truth is discovered. It’s just plain rap song. Also I should have it as ring tone in my cellphone, at least so are the TV commercials saying. No thanks. The Doors’ Hello, I Love You is just fine for me.
Basically I have nothing against covering songs, when they have been done well. I love David Bowie’s version of Bruce Springsteen’s It’s Hard To Be A Saint In The City. And when I first heard Johnny Cash’s Personal Jesus (originally by Depeche Mode of course), my instant thought was; this is how it should have been made. But Cupid’s Chokehold doesn’t quite work for me.
Chorus is from Supertramp’s excellent song Breakfast In America
, as is the rhythm of the rapping. Definitely points for choosing a good song. In that GCH did good work. So I guess I should like the song. But unfortunately I’m not giving points for execution because it sucked. Cupid’s Chokehold is just another mainstream rap song. Therefor one vinyl.
