Rant on music
I have my guilty pleasures. Occasionally I listen to Sugababes or for example Savage Garden (memories from when I was teenager). And I must admit that Wham!‘s Last Christmas is still quite eeh very neat holiday tune. Sometimes you hear absolutely commercial but also incredibly catchy songs, but almost always they are one hit wonders in my books. I just rather hear something else than Cowell crap, which is actually worse than crap. It’s neutral, clean, safe and nice. It also makes me slightly angry but it’s wrong kind of anger.
It’s not that everyone should be singing protest songs (like Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday) or doing music that you don’t even want to really listen to (a la Metal Machine Music) or be wild and start completely new genre. I’m very happy that there are sites like Jamendo where I can find new music because otherwise I’d only have Krafwerk. I guess in the end it boils down to fact that people buy whatever shit everyone else is buying and whatever shit were are told to buy. Recent RATM campaign could be an example of such mass behaviour but it is also example of mass saying that they are bored to buy same song (I’m sorry but first place on any chart isn’t anyone’s birthright).
Or it could be obviously that I am becoming miserable old git and don’t understand the Zeitgeist anymore… and I haven’t been here even a quarter century yet. :/ I don’t like hip pop and bling bling but I like hip hop.

@Jem Well… I kinda like your ‘neutral, clean, safe and nice’ music taste at least if I can trust your last.fm. :P

Hanna, I am 100% WITH you on this!! =D But now I tend to wonder… what musicians DO you tend to listen to frequently? Got any top favourites?? =D

@Taversia Well it depends on my mood… Lately I have been listening a lot Martha Wainwright, Bauhaus, Trend (German punk band), Cabaret Voltaire, Carbon Silicon and Depeche Mode (my all time favourite). Ooh and I have to mention this great song: The Elephant In The Room.
I don’t listen to that obscure music – I think at least so but seriously most stuff they play on radio or on music channels gives me a headache (which is probably the reason why I don’t listen to radio nor watch music tv). * AAARGH * I get all angry again. :P

I have to admit listening to Sugababes and Savage Garden occasionally too! I love ‘Fly to the moon; :)
